Nine Things You Should Buy Used

by Hank

Free Money Finance, my favorite non-military personal finance blog, lists nine things you should not buy new :

  • Timeshares
  • Pets
  • Software and console games
  • Office furniture
  • Sports equipment
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Cars
  • Toys
  • Jewelry

You should buy these things used.  There is a huge mark up for most of these items, and a large depreciation as soon as you get the item home.  I am a huge, huge fan of half.com.  Half.com is a wonderful website that was bought out by eBay several years ago.  You can buy and sell all of your old DVDs, CDs, VHS movies, books, college textbooks, video games, and several other items.  I have even used this website to sell my old things around the house instead of having a yard sale.  I used to have over 300 CDs that I never listened to.  I sold a lot of them and a lot of my DVDs and have pocketed over $1,000 a year for the last several years.  It is so easy!  Unlike eBay, the prices are set by the seller.  They have books, CDs, and DVDs as low as 75 cents!

I usually do not share items from the several blogs I read everyday, but I saw this posting and just had to show it to everyone.  Llink to the original.
